HOW AIRLINES WORK
Many moving parts. One departure.
A flight is part of a larger network of aircraft, airports, schedules, and people.
The hub
A hub brings flights together so travelers can connect to more destinations. KJ uses Phoenix as the center of its fictional route network.
Aircraft and schedules
Airlines match aircraft to routes based on factors such as distance and capacity. A flight number identifies a scheduled service; the date identifies a particular flight.
Fares and cabins
Cabins offer different seating and service. In KJ, simulated prices are calculated consistently from the route, date, flight, cabin, and fare version.
A shared picture
Booking, gate displays, seats, and boarding passes all describe the same trip. A gate change should update that picture everywhere it appears.
